♻️ Great news for California recyclers! Thanks to SB 1215, the state’s Covered Electronic Waste (CEW) Recycling Program now covers TWO types of batteries.
Here is what you need to know:
🔋 Loose Batteries are separate, standalone batteries that are not permanently installed in a device. These are NOT subject to the new battery-embedded product fee. Think AA, AAA, 9-volt, and similar batteries you can simply remove.
📱 Battery-Embedded Products are devices with batteries that cannot be easily removed by the user, like laptops, wireless earbuds, e-bikes, and tablets. Under SB 1215, these products now carry a recycling fee at the time of purchase and are officially included in the CEW Recycling Program.
Neither type belongs in your trash or recycling carts. Learn how to properly recycle both at https://calrecycle.ca.gov/electronics/embeddedbatteries
